Short Biography:
Jana Hawley is Professor and Department Head for Apparel Textiles and Interior Design. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Missouri in Human Environmental Sciences with an emphasis in Textile and Apparel Management and her Masters from Oklahoma State University in Clothing and Textiles. Her bachelor’s degree is from Fort Hays State University. She has been on faculty at Indiana University, the University of North Texas, and returned to the University of Missouri in 2001 where she taught Textiles and E-Commerce related subjects. Dr. Hawley was trained in cultural anthropology and uses cultural theory and qualitative analyses in her research. Her scholarship focuses on a systems analysis of textile recycling but she has also published in the areas of E-Commerce the cultural aspects of the Old Order Amish. Dr. Hawley has several outstanding teaching awards including UNT’s Pioneer Award for Teaching with Technology and MU’s Teaching with Technology Award and the prestigious Kemper Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Hawley is a Fulbright Scholar to India and a Global Scholar to Thailand. She has also served as Advisor for the International Textile Recycling Conference in Japan. She serves as Vice President of Operations for the International Textiles and Apparel Association (ITAA). Jana is a Kansas native.
