The School of Family Studies and Human Services provides high quality educational programs, training and services; increases knowledge and skills through multidisciplinary research, teaching and scholarship; and contributes professional leadership in order to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families in Kansas, the country and the world.

The School values multidisciplinary work. Programs in the School have an applied focus. Students learn content and theory in the classroom and then apply the theory and content in practicum and lab experiences. Students annually provide over 50,000 hours of supervised practica service on campus and in area hospitals, schools and social service agencies.

As of 2008, The School has 525 students in undergraduate programs, 225 in master's degree programs and 45 in doctoral programs.
