Gerontology: Master’s Degree Distance Program
With the U.S. population aging at an incredible rate, a master’s degree in gerontology is becoming highly marketable. Gerontology studies the aging processes and individuals as they grow from middle age through later life. It looks at physical, mental, and social changes related to aging, changes in society resulting from our aging population, and the application of this knowledge to policies and programs. People pursuing this degree come from diverse disciplines, ranging from social work and nursing to public policy and architecture. Graduates use what they learn to enhance their current career path or they can move into fields such as long-term care administration, health care, or nonprofit organizations that work with older populations. As long as we keep living longer, healthier and more vital lives, your skills should always be in demand!
How It Works
This inter-institutional master’s degree program offered through the Great Plains IDEA is taught entirely via distance education. K-State graduates earn an master’s degree in Family Studies and Human Services with a specialization in gerontology. The program is designed so working professionals should be able to complete it in approximately three years.
