Gerontology
Older people are the fastest-growing segment of the American population, and gerontology is the academic discipline focused on the unique attributes of this group. Students enrolled in a variety of majors across Kansas State University supplement their studies with coursework in gerontology in order to prepare themselves professionally to meet the needs of older people.
The K-State Center on Aging offers an undergraduate secondary major in gerontology or gerontology with an emphasis in long-term care administration. Both on-campus and distance programs in gerontology are available, so no matter where you live, you can equip yourself with professional skills of value to a growing number of employers.
Almost every curricular area can be paired with a secondary major or emphasis in gerontology. K-State students with a background in gerontology have gone on to careers in social services, law, nutrition, marketing, architecture, research, industrial design and many others. The K-State Center on Aging, serving the entire University and affiliated with the College of Human Ecology, helps students tailor their academic paths so they can gain the skills and attributes our society will rely on as our lifespans increase.
