Minimum Coursework Requirements

M.S. Report and Thesis Options in Human Nutrition

  • STAT 702 (or) 703 (3) Statistical Methods
  • HN 880 (2) Graduate Seminar in Human Nutrition (1 credit hr each semester)
  • HN 898 (Var) Master's Report (not required for coursework option) or HN 899 (Var) Master's Thesis (not required for coursework option)

Additional HN courses (minimum 3 credits) at the graduate level are required. HN 400 and HN 413 or their equivalent are required for full admission. If you do not have the courses or their equilavent, you will be admitted provisionally. The Thesis Supervisory Committee will determine the student's competency requirements and will work with him/her to select courses that will meet the requirements. The student's Program of Study should be approved by the Graduate Studies Coordinator (or designee).

Of the 30 to 32 credit hours normally required for the master's program of study, at least 18 hours should be at the 700 level and above, including the thesis/research and the report/problems hours required by the thesis and report options.

In addition to the HN courses required for the MS options, three additional HN courses (minimum 7 credits) at the graduate level are required. The Dissertation Supervisory Committee will determine the student's competency requirements and will work with him/her to select courses that will meet the requirements. The student's Program of Study should be approved by the Graduate Studies Coordinator (or designee).

Of the 24-30 hours of course work credit hours beyond the master's degree normally required by the supervisory committee, 15 credit hours should be at the 800-level or above, in addition to doctoral research credit hours.
