Department of Human Nutrition

The Department of Human Nutrition is a growing, vital and active unit within the College of Human Ecology at Kansas State University. It offers:

  • The largest nutrition and exercise undergraduate curriculum in the nation (typically more than 125 students)
  • One of the few undergraduate programs in public health nutrition in the nation
  • An accredited bachelor’s degree in athletic training with a growing enrollment*

About half of the faculty is involved actively in research and outreach through either the Agricultural Experiment Station or K-State Research and Extension. The department is home to a $4 million Family Nutrition Program (FNP) for Kansas food stamp eligible audiences of all ages and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Program (EFNEP), which targets limited resource audiences, especially young families with children.

The department frequently has high-profile grants from groups such as the NIH, USDA, American Egg Board, Kansas Corn Commission, Kansas Wheat Commission, American Heart Association and Bally’s Fitness.
