Wait List Guidelines
Student responsibilities for being considered for getting into closed HN classes:
- First - you must get your name on the wait list of a closed HN class to be considered. You can get on the wait list by trying to enroll in the class as usual (through KATS). If the class is closed it will automatically ask if you want to be added to the wait list.
- Getting on the wait list does not ensure that you will be automatically added to the class if an opening should occur. The wait list is simply a list used by the instructor to determine who wants to get into the class. If an instructor notifies you through email that he/she has given you electronic permission to get in the course, you will then have to formally add the class through KATS as usual.
- You must check your email (K-State email) at least every 48 hours for notification. If you have another email address (e.g., hotmail), it is your responsibility to forward your K-State email to the format that you use. If you have not responded within 48 hours, the chance to add the course will be given to another student.
Which students on the wait list will be given priority:
We will give three levels of priority (with #1 the highest):
- All graduating seniors who are required to take the course.
- HN, DT, & KIN majors who are required to take the course.
- Other students who are required to take the course.
- All others - course not required for student's curriculum.
Students also have the option of taking the “distance” sections of some HN courses offered through the Division of Continuing Education. However these courses are usually more expensive than the in-class sections for in-state students. See the Division of Continuing Education for a listing of these courses. Some require instructor or advisor permission to take the course in that format.
What procedure will be followed in notifying students that they will be allowed to enroll in a class?
- The Instructor or other designated person will handle the wait list. As a matter of courtesy, no faculty should put anyone in a course for which they are not the instructor without expressed permission of the instructor.
- The wait list and course enrollment should be reviewed at least three times weekly for openings and possible candidates to notify.
- The student will be emailed using K-State email address, giving them a deadline of 48 hrs (weekday hours) to respond.
- If the student does not respond or says no, another student will be selected from the wait list.
