Facts, Stats and Accreditations
- One of the oldest departments in the college, HMD was organized in 1922 as the Department of Institutional Economics.
- Areas of research in HMD include food safety, customer satisfaction, hospitality marketing, e-commerce in the hospitality industry, convention and event management, waste management in foodservice, tourism market analysis, and many more (List of selected HMD publications).
- K-State has the largest distance education program in dietetics in the United States, with students from almost every state and several foreign countries! We've been "online" since 1995.
- The Hotel and Restaurant Management Program (HRM) at Kansas State University is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA). The Commission found the program to be of high quality with great experiences in foodservice and lodging areas, and recognized nationally and internationally for the quality of its graduates.
- The Dietetics program is the only 4-year, accredited bachelor's program in dietetics in Kansas.
- The HRM program is one of only 35 programs of the 190 programs in the country to be accredited. We have been accredited since 1994.
- The Coordinated Program in Dietetics and the Didactic Program in Dietetics at K-State are currently granted continuing accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
- The HRM Program has a 98% job placement rate; many students get multiple job offers.
- We offer both master's and Ph.D. degrees in foodservice, hospitality management and administrative dietetics, attracting students from around the world.
- The Didactic Program in Dietetics provides the necessary coursework to meet the academic requirements of the American Dietetic Association. Upon graduation, the graduate is eligible to apply for a post-baccalaureate supervised practice experience in a dietetic internship. Once the internship is completed, the graduate is then qualified to sit for the national Registration Examination for Dietitians of the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
- Our Department has been in the business of graduate education for a long time! Our first master's degree was awarded in 1921. Our Ph.D. program began in 1975.
