Recent K-State graduate wins national textile award

MANHATTAN — April Hammond Bilbrey, a Kansas State University May 2005 bachelor’s graduate in textiles, Larned, has won the 2005 Outstanding Textile Graduate award from the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.
The award is based on academic performance and involvement in student activities. Elizabeth McCullough, K-State professor of apparel, textiles and interior design, nominated Bilbrey, who was chosen out of 21 association chapter winners from across the country.
“She has excellent academic credentials, excellent leadership and service,” McCullough said. “She’s one of the best students I’ve ever worked with in my entire career.”
Bilbrey received $1,000 as part of the award. She was eligible for the honor after receiving the Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Textiles Award from the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists. Bilbrey was given that award based on her university involvement, leadership roles and work in textile science.
Bilbrey was involved with K-State’s American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists chapter throughout her time at K-State and was secretary for two years.
