Two students in the School of Family Studies and Human Services will work with the Kauffman Scholars Institute on campus this summer. Brandy James, a doctoral student, will serve as counselor coordinator. Lacey Carlson will be a counselor.
Funded through Kauffman Scholars Inc., the program gives Kansas City seventh graders an opportunity to sample campus life and educational opportunities at K-State.
Young students at each of four sessions will stay in dorms and visit a number of colleges on campus. At the College of Human Ecology sessions, activities will feature the Speech and Hearing Center, the Reality Check Game in FSHS and the Center on Aging.
Kauffman Scholars president R. Stephen Green explained: “Our mission is to significantly increase the number of low-income, urban students who become college graduates.” The organization also offers tutoring and scholarship programs.
