Madaí Rivera to lead diversity recruitment
Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Madaí Rivera, new coordinator for academic services and diversity in the College of Human Ecology, grew up in Mexico, attended KSU and understands the importance of her job.
“Diversity means that differences among people are valued and appreciated,” the new coordinator said. “I’m that student who I will recruit.”
Ms. Rivera, who holds two degrees from K-State, will continue the campaign to draw a wider variety of students to its programs. She replaces Melissa Adams who married and moved to the Kansas City area.
Ms. Rivera grew up in Juárez, Mexico, speaking only Spanish. When she was in the 6th grade, her parents moved to Dodge City. After high school, she received a scholarship to attend KSU.
As an undergraduate student, the new coordinator worked with students in the university’s Office of Academic Services and coordinated the Peer Mentor Program.
She received a degree in elementary education and taught Spanish at three Manhattan elementary schools. This month she completed a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction at K-State.
Ms. Rivera is the first on both sides of her family to earn a college degree, she said. But she isn’t the last.
She recruited her brother Carlos, 22, and sister Luz, 20, who are both K-State students.
