Tent Talk

Luke Blubaugh

For five years, aromas of good cookin’ and promises of reunion have drawn faculty, students and alumni – Wildcat football fans all – to the College’s Hospitality Tent before home games.

Guided by Kevin Roberts and Pat Pesci, Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) students are in charge.

This year’s coordinator is Kendra Vandonge who gets college credit for her work. Other students volunteer. Donations from Virginia Moxley, dean, and those gathered at the “door” go into coffers of two HRM student organizations.

During homecoming on Oct. 27, more than 225 dined on grilled-on-the-spot burgers, root beer baked beans and monster cookies prepared by Derby Dining Services. Roberts, Pesci and Kendra coordinate the menu with catering managers there.

The event has traditionally been called the White Tent. This year the tent is purple and white striped. But no one seems to notice. They are too busy visiting and eating.

The next White Tent is Nov. 17.
