Seven named Outstanding Seniors

Natalie Zych, Erin Dittman, Kristen Daniels, Katherine Lehrman, Andrea Oltjen, Carolyn McCullough and Sarah Knudsen will be honored at Human Ecology’s fall graduation honors and student awards presentation 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in Justin Hall.
The seven Outstanding Seniors were chosen for academic achievement; leadership, participation and service; and professional potential.
Zych, bachelor’s candidate in dietetics, Lenexa, has volunteered with the Healthy Kids Challenge and with the Boys and Girls Club of Manhattan. Her work has included a dietetics internship with Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Mo., and with K-State’s Kramer Dining Center. Her scholarships include the Rose Fowler Scholarship and the Fogel-Anderson Construction Co. Scholarship.
Dittman, bachelor’s candidate in family life and community services, Manhattan, has been an undergraduate peer educator and an intern with K-State Research and Extension. Her honors include the Adult Student Academic Excellence Award and membership in the Pinnacle honorary. The mother of two sons, she volunteers with the Northview PTA and Teen Mothersof Preschoolers.
Daniels, bachelor’s candidate in athletic training, Minneola, has been active in the honoraries of Phi Upsilon Omicron and Blue Key, for which she was chosen as the 2007 exemplary member of the year. She also received the William T. Muir and John T. Muir Alpha Tau Omega Blue Key Leadership Scholarship. She has worked as a student athletic trainer and a fitness specialist.
Lehrman, bachelor’s candidate in life span human development, Newton, has worked as a teacher’s aide and has volunteered on the governing board of K-State’s Goodnow Hall; she also volunteers at area day care providers. She belongs to Kappa Omicron Nu honorary. Her scholarships include the Louisa Ziller Memorial Scholarship and the Miller and Danielson Memorial Scholarship.
Oltjen, bachelor’s candidate in hotel and restaurant management, Robinson, has been president of the Hospitality Management Society since January and has volunteered at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community and with the College of Human Ecology’s annual telethon.
McCullough, bachelor’s candidate in communication sciences and disorders, Stilwell, has been a three-year letter winner on the K-State women’s basketball team, a basketball camp counselor and an athletic ambassador. She belongs to the honor societies Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Omicron Nu, Golden Key and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She also is a member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team.
Knudsen, bachelor’s candidate in apparel design, Lincoln, Neb., is interning with the designer Michael Kors in New York this semester. She has been an undergraduate teaching assistant in the course aesthetics of apparel and textiles, and she chaired the apparel and textiles department’s open house committee.
