Interior design program rated one of the best

A nationwide survey rates the interior design program offered through College of Human Ecology among the best in the nation. Again.

The 2008 survey of leading design firms across the nation, conducted by the journal DesignIntelligence and the Design Futures Council in conjunction with the Almanac of Architecture and Design, also ranked the landscape architecture bachelor degree program in College of Architecture, Planning and Design first in the nation.

The annual survey is conducted to determine the top 15 colleges and universities for architecture and design in the U.S. K-State’s interior design program has ranked in the top 10 each of the 9 years of the survey history.

“We are thrilled to note that our program has once again been recognized among the top 10 accredited programs in the United States,” said Jana Hawley, head of K-State’s department of apparel, textiles and interior design. “Because our department has a strong focus on sustainability, we were delighted to learn that our program has a national ranking of second for sustainable design practices and principles.”

A cross-section of firms with a disbursed geographic profile — including firms that are leaders in their market sector and that have won major national, state, local and market-sector awards — were surveyed. They were asked to indicate which accredited programs in the past five years produced graduates most prepared for today’s and tomorrow’s real-world practice.

Approximately 270 firms and organizations with 568,500 employees participated in this year’s research.
