Financial planning team heads to national

For the ninth consecutive year, students in the College of Human Ecology have qualified to compete in the National Collegiate Financial Planning
Championship.

Team members are Jessi Chadd, Scott Reynolds and Melissa Smith.

Financial planning teams from the School of Family Studies and Human Services have won four national championships.

The competition, sponsored by Amerprise Financial Advisors Inc. and the Financial Planning Association, is April 24-26 in Minneapolis, MN.

John Grable advises the team.

The nation-wide competition is comprised of a qualifying event and a final event. First, each team has 30 days to write a comprehensive financial plan. Plans represent best practices designed to help a client family reach financial goals and dreams.

Students may not use commercial software or obtain the help of faculty or practitioners.

Plans are judged by practicing financial planners and eight winning teams are invited to the national finals.

The final event includes a team presentation and participation in a Jeopardy(r) style game show event. Total points earned determine which teams becomes the national champion.

KSU is the only university to send a team to the finals every year since the
competition began in 2000.
