Carol Ann Holcomb…gets her own wall space. President Jon Wefald has appointed her Professor Emeritus of Human Nutrition. She will now become an elite member of “The Wall” in Justin Hall, department chair Denis Medeiros commented.
Jana Hawley…presents the keynote address at the Eco-Design for a Global Paradigm Shift conference at Hansei University, Seoul, Korea, this month. Her topic is “Apparel Sustainability in the 21st Century: Making the Right Decisions.” This summer, the professor and head of Apparel, Textiles & Interior Design has been invited to attend the Bryn Mawr Summer Leadership Institute.
Plus. . . “The Wonders of Technology,” an article by Dr. Hawley and Lynn Boorady from University of Missouri has been published in the Clothing and Textiles Research Journal.
The college’s Alumni Board…met in Justin Hall Friday. Jane P. Marshall . . . talked about desserts. At the recent Greater Midwest Foodways Alliance conference in Chicago, she presented the keynote address on “Cakewalks and bake sales: How women pioneers refined the Midwest and defined community.” The Chicago Tribune was one of several newspapers covering the program. Marshall teaches Food Writing and Development of American Cuisine in HRIMD and does writing projects for Dean Moxley.
Valerie Stull. . . travels to Zambia this summer where she has been invited to work on a project dealing with HIV/AIDS impacted individuals. The study is being done in collaboration with Tufts University. The goal is to determine the usefulness of seeds (from several crop varieties), distributed to HIV/AIDS infected and impacted individuals in the rural community, as a sustainable solution for food insecurity and malnutrition. Valerie is a student in the master of public health program and is especially interested in international nutrition work.
Angie Hasemann. . . who graduated from HRIMD’s didactic program in dietetics in August 2007, received the Outstanding Student Award (for a student in a dietetic internship) for the state of Georgia from the Georgia Dietetic Association. Hasemann participated in the Augusta (Georgia) Area Dietetic Internship. She was selected from almost 100 interns.
Katie Hamm . . . is elected Student Representative on the American Dietetic Association Student Council Advisory Committee. As part of this role, Katie will travel to Chicago this summer to help plan the student workshop that is part of the annual Food and Nutrition Conference and Exhibition, ADA’s
annual meeting.
