The School of Family Studies and Human Services will offer classes toward a bachelor’s degree from K-State at Salina this fall.

The degree program in family studies and human services  is the first in Salina from the College of Human Ecology.

Bill Meredith, professor and FSHS director, reports that a search is on for a new faculty member. He hopes to add three on the Salina campus within the next year or two. Salina faculty members will teach one graduate course in Manhattan each year.

“We hope to serve the need to train people in social services for the Salina area and Western Kansas,” Meredith said.

“We are excited to offer this option to students at K-State at Salina,” added Dennis Kuhlman, dean at K-State at Salina. “Family studies and human services graduates will have a wide variety of career choices.”

Among the courses to be offered in the program are Personal Finance, Family Relationships and Gender Roles, Human Sexuality, Human Development and Helping Relationships.
