Schrader, dining services net national kudos

Housing and Dining Services and Melissa Schrader, M.S., R.D., L.D., received honors at the National Association of College and University Food Services conference in Washington D.C. in July.

Dining Services won first place in the Most Innovative Nutrition Program competition for a year-long program encouraging student residents to make wise food choices and lead a healthy lifestyle through diet, exercise and balance.

This is the second time in five years that Dining Services has taken first place.

In addition, Dining Services received two prestigious Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards:

  • Third place in Residence Hall Dining – Single Stand Alone Concept/Outlet;
  • Honorable mention in Residence Hall Dining – Catering Special Event.

Schrader, an instructor in the Hospitality Management and Dietetics, was recognized with a President’s Award for distinguished contributions to the group’s Midwest Region.

Earlier this year the Kansas Dietetics Association recognized her as the Young Dietitian of the Year.
